Sunbeam Motor Car Company Limited was a British car manufacturer in operation between 1905 and 1934. Its works were at Moorfields, a suburb of Wolverhampton in Staffordshire.  John Marston first registered the Sunbeam name in 1888 for his pedal-cycle business.

In January 1905, the Sunbeam Motor Car Company Ltd was formed to purchase and remove motor cars and their Villiers Street Works from the rest of the John Marston Sunbeam Cycles business.  In 1912 Sunbeam became a public listed company.

Their golden period was really in the 1920’s.  In 1923 they became the first British car to win a Grand Prix when Henry Seagrave won the race at Tours with Sunbeams in 1st, 2nd and 4th places.  Both Seagrave and Malcolm Campbell went onto to set land speed records in Sunbeams – yes Campbell’s trademark ‘Bluebird’ was a Sunbeam!

This particular Sunbeam 16 was first registered in September 1927 in Berkshire, where it remained until the 1950’s when it was bought in poor condition for £25 by the Grove Garage Co., in Hampshire.  Sixty years later it was located still in the corner of their garage unrestored, having never been touched.  As you can see she has been fully restored by her present owner Dougie O and was this year’s Best Car in Show last month at the NWCC Annual Show at Hale Carnival – a very worthy winner!!!
