MINI COOPER

This month’s feature focuses on Chris L’s Rover Mini Cooper RSP which in fact was the first Rover Mini Cooper RSP in Lancashire.  He had been first hooked into these vehicles by his brother’s Mini Cooper back in 1962 – which also happened to be the first Mini Cooper in Lancashire!

This Rover Mini Cooper is number 402 of a limited edition and has been owned from new by Chris.  This model was supplied, as standard, with: oil cooler, sun roof, half leather upholstery, leather steering wheel, spot lights, sundym glass, electronic ignition, 1275cc A+ engine, ‘mag alloy’ wheels and bonnet stripes with John Cooper signatures.  Chris has over the years maintained and enhanced this car to improve comfort, handling, braking and overall performance whilst keeping, as far as possible, to the original concept.

Chris has used this car as an official vehicle on many car runs and rallies (including the Welsh World Rally GB and the Coast to Coast Classic Tour) and they have both taken part in many events countrywide for both NWCC and LAC.  It has also made appearances on television as part of one of Micheal Portillo’s programmes.   If you look closely at the main picture you will see Chris as a passenger – for those of you in the know -its Mike Wood acting as navigator and just to show that the car is not always pristine, the rear end shot is of the Mini returning from officiating on the World Rally GB.  Amazing just how much mud collects after a weekend travelling thought the Welsh Forest Stages.
